“Has she woken up?”

“Keep it down. No, not yet. She’s still sleeping it off.”

“But she’s going to be okay?”

“Yeah. Just needs rest.”

“Thank goodness.”

“Mmm.”

“Thanks for bringing her to the hospital. I couldn’t spare anyone else to.”

“Course. Not like you pay her enough to afford an ambulance anyway.”

“Only millionaires can afford an ambulance these days. I promise you, we’re paying your partner every cent she’s worth.”

“Wife.”

“Huh?”

“She’s my wife. We got married three months ago. Figured, might as well, just to say we did.”

“Oh, I didn’t know.”

“Course you didn’t.”

“She doesn’t talk about you much.”

“I imagine most people avoid talking to you about love.”

“Most people don’t talk to me about anything but work.”

“Makes sense.”

”How soon do you think she’ll be back on her feet?”

“Fuck you.”

“Well, that’s uncalled for.”

“You’re not putting her back to work until she’s fully recovered. I don’t care if it delays the whole thing. Your little dick-measuring contest with China isn’t worth her life. Escaping this fucking planet isn’t worth her life. I’d rather die alongside her than live without her, you scumbag.”

“That’s not why I was asking.”

“Sure it wasn’t.”

“Okay, fine. I’m sorry, okay? I should have checked on her more often.”

“Not sure how much your presence would have improved things. You make her feel pressured.”

“It’s not my fault there’s pressure.”

“It’s your fault there’s that much pressure.”

“There’s not much I can do about the asteroid!”

“Keep it down. Yeah, but that doesn’t give you an excuse to treat her the way you do.”

“Listen, I’m stressed too, okay?”

“We all are. Do drugs about it, or something.”

“I already do. Want some coke?”

“What kind of apology is this?”

“A sincere one.”

“...Keep it.”

“You were actually considering it.”

“Course I was. Shit ain’t cheap.”

“Listen, I gotta get back to work. Just give me a call when she’s ready to come back.”

“Better hope we never meet like this again.”

“Oh, believe me, I do.”
